Newgale Beach has to be one of the very best beaches for sand sculpture. The sand is fine enough and damp enough to hold its shape.

Whilst I sat in the car with my crochet and a sleeping baby the others set off to make sandcastles and sand dragons. A row of sandcastles and a pebble city had to be abandoned as the tide was coming in fast, but undaunted, the children immediately started on a sand dragon, making up stories about its name and where it would swim to when the waves covered it up.

Time for a paddle and to wash off the sand

and then back to our cosy home in Solva and that glorious view
