origami cranes
wishes folded into wings
golden thoughts take flight
~
Joining in with Ronovan’s haiku challenge.
his prompt words this week are CRANE and GOLD.
serendipity as I discover that the crane is considered a sacred bird in Japan and wishes will be granted to those who fold one thousand origami cranes. I have taken a photo of an origami crane left at a shrine which I will add to this post on my return.
at the moment I can only post photos which I have taken on the iPad.
and it is my birthday today! What a happy day, off to see a Japanese garden and art museum here in Fukuoka before flying to Tokyo.
update: after posting the above, we visited a Japanese garden in Fukuoka and on entry we were given an origami crane for longevity! How magical is that! Can you see the crane in the picture?
A nice pulling together of the two. I like this.

I do love happy coincidences! I did have the most amazing birthday. The group I was with made it very special. So glad you like the haiku, this one is very special to me. Although, strictly speaking, according to our Japanese guide it is only a Haiku if it includes reference to a season of the year. If it does not we ought to be adding two 7 syllable lines to form a Tanka. So it seems we non-Japanese are creating a new form of something, but not necessarily Haiku. Apparently there is a haiku ‘dictionary’ with all the words that can be used to represent the seasons. I’m going to look into that a bit more when I get home.

Oh that is interesting Daffy, It will be one hell of a lot harder to write a true Haiku if that is the case!
Glad you are enjoying yorself xx

I agree! So maybe we just ignore that and carry on as if in blissful ignorance. Ha! 😉

Yes, I think that is what I might have to do, I am usually guilty of bending the rules a bit as it is! 🙂

Happy Birthday – was this planned as a birthday trip? Your haiku made me think of Qigong – there are several moves involving the crane

Yes it was planned as a b’day trip. So thrilled the haiku reminds you of Qigong. I did a workshop once years ago and would love to do more. Thanks for the prompt, I wonder if there is any happening in West Dorset, will have to check that out when I get back. This holiday is wonderful, but the schedule relentless, very little time for quiet reflection, I’m sure a spot of Qigong would have helped immensely.

“Happy Birthday.” I like the idea of golden origami cranes. Not sure if the origami birds I used to make were cranes.

Thank you Rainbow. I am going to look into Origami, it is one of the things I have not yet tried.

You should! I am not very good as you have to be so accurate but it is amazing what you can make.

I think it is the accuracy bit that has put me off before!
