Ronovan’s Haiku prompt words: GEM and FLAME
Our Photo Challenge prompt: ZERO
~
I’m making good progress with the Aran bobble hats, target 14!
My family gathers every other year for a week’s holiday, 15 of us all together. I have a picture in my mind of the 8 little ones all in knitted bobble hats. Why stop there! So their parents will be getting hats too, I hope.
I am knitting them using two threads of Aran yarn and 8mm needles, which is SIZE ZERO in old style English knitting needle sizes.
Another ‘Zero’ in the photo is the lovely autumnal Colinette wool, called One Zero, the name of this colour way is ‘October Afternoon’.
The colours of Colinette yarn are so gorgeous, but sadly I have stopped using it as the colours run when washed and being 100% wool, it it not practical for children’s clothing. Too many items got ruined in the wash! So this yarn sits forlornly in my stash waiting for its moment, perhaps to take out on an Autumn afternoon, in front of a roaring fire, when inspiration strikes.
Next week’s Photo prompt:

That’s an awesome project. I hope you are able to knit all the bobble hats you need. I liked the haiku it tied in well with the picture and story. 🙂

Thank you Vashti, did get them all done. Photographing them on moving children is more of a challenge.

I love the idea of crafting for friends and family. Sadly my gifts are most often thought of as white elephants…

Oh gosh, I do know what you mean! My parents and siblings used to hate my homemade gifts, but my kids and their kids are more appreciative! So far anyway. 😉

What a thoughtful idea for a fun family photo, one all will cherish forever and ever. The pom poms on the hats are sweet and wispy.
The comparison of autumn afternoon and the colours of the yarn in your haiku are excellent. Two very true sentences there.

Thank you Melissa, so glad you noticed the two sentences working, and there is a reference to a season, no opposites though, that eluded me again this week. I feel I have hit the jackpot if I get that in as well! The pom-poms are made of mohair yarn. I was given it by a friend who was having a clear out. I’m glad to find a use for it as it is not very nice to knit with.

I know what you mean about the opposites. They are the real challenge.

Gosh – another gift of challenge words for you!! Excellent all round 🙂 Did I mention before that I will email a picture of hats and when you see it you will see why… My haiku & photo are almost done, but not quite…

Thanks Cathy. I nearly always have the photo all ready to go as with his one, and then weave the haiku round it. Often there is a sinking feeling when I first see the haiku prompts and then after a few pages of scribbles, and syllable counting, it seems to come together.
No, I don’t think you did mention a picture of hats, I’m looking forward to seeng it and your ‘Zero’ post! 🤗

Love the composition of this photograph. And how clever, two zeros! The hats will be fantastic, and provide a really fun, family photo.

Thank you Thimbers! I am very excited about getting a photo of everyone in their hats, if only we can persuade the twins to stay still long enough!

How clever to fit two zeros into the photo! I love the fluffy pom poms on the hats.

I had fun putting this one together. The fluffy pom-poms are made of some mohair yarn that was given to me a while ago. It works well as pom-poms , too itchy for me to wear next to my skin, I ‘m glad to find this use for it.

There are obviously lots of ‘zeros’ out there if you know where to look! Hats look lovely.

Thank you Rainbow Jane, there is something satisfying about mass production. It is fun seeing the ‘zeros’ roll in. 🙂

Fantastic twist of the challenge words to spin a haiku yarn Sandra. And what a pointed reference to your photo challenge, very clever combination.

You must nearly be there with the hats by the look of it – such a lovely challenge to set yourself.

Yes, I am nearly there, thank you for the inspiration! Just wondering whether to put pom-poms on the hats for the Dads.

I’ve seen the hats and they look great as a group but, no, no pom-poms for the dads!
