Our Photo Challenge Prompt this week is EXTRA
The kalanchoe are once more putting on a show, my love of growing cuttings has resulted in an abundance of flowering plants. At last I have discovered the light levels they need to come into flower. The ones on the ‘stage’ are all slightly different with a deep pink, a yellow, a mid pink, a double pink and an orange, the latter still in bud. The ones below, in the footlights, are all extras and will be given as gifts.
The African violet has been flowering for ages, like an older more experienced performer, she takes centre stage, a star performer bringing colour and contrast, and all the kalanchoes become EXTRAS in her show.

Magnificent display of extras! Beautiful arrangement and I love the haiku – the violet does indeed look serene (and important!).

So glad you like the fun of it Melissa. Just love saying ‘kalanchoe can-can’! I was glad of the prompt words which inspired the combination.

My goodness, Sandra, that’s a lot of kalanchoes! Coincidentally I was given one as a gift recently, still alive despite relative neglect π My haiku is now available at https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2016/03/03/flashing-petticoats/

I managed to give one of the ‘extras’ away today, it felt good! to a friend for her birthday. They grow so easily from cuttings, I get a bit carried away!
Thank you for the link, I will can-can myself over RITG.

A beautiful image of colour and interesting haiku Sandra. Is the care and watering shared?

Thanks Denis. No, not shared, just me here. I spend about an hour each Saturday morning watering, pruning and repotting houselants where needed. I’m running out of surfaces on which to keep them all.

That’s a lot of plants. I had one of those kalanchoes once. Just a little one and I waited for it to flower again but it never happened. π¦ You obviously have the touch.

I had a few that did not flower for a long time and looked them up online. It seems they need a period of equal day and night, ie. At each Equinox. So I put them on well lit window sills all round the house and it seems to work. The one I have kept in the bathroom, which is North facing did not come into flower. If you lived round the corner I would bring you one of the extras!
