Fern, Nigella, Ivy and Sweet Cicely

I’m fascinated with the sweet twist on the buds of the Sisyrinchium Striatum (hope I’ve got the name right – is there a common name that’s easier to remember?)

All plants seen recently at Chelsea Flower Show: Nigella, Sweet Cicely, fern, variegated ivy, Ladies Mantle and ‘Sisy’.

They sit in a basket that was carried by Big Sister when she was a bridesmaid recently.

  2. Thanks for sharing the wonderful images Sandra. The human Nigella is currently out here making money doing various appearances etc.

  3. Such a pretty series of photos, I love the Nigella. I have heard it called Love-in-the-Mist. The basket of flowers that your Big Sister carried are gorgeous, and all your photos are really beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing with Today’s Flowers, and I wish you a very happy day 🙂

    • Thank you Denise, yes ‘Nigella’ is also called ‘Love-in-the-Mist’, I was sticking with girls names for the post, but I think I like L-i-t-M better. Thank you for hosting Today’s Flowers. Happy Flowery Day! 🙂

  4. For some reason I missed replying to this yesterday – I am usually so diligent, sorry! The basket looks SO effective and just as nice as Big Sister’s roses – it is a really balanced shape and the blue and green feathery contents are a lovely combination. I liked both the Chelsea gardens you showed too – and I am all for Dorris’s suggestion…

    • I don’t know how you keep up with all the vases – there are such a large and beautiful collection each week, it must take ages. Thank you for your kind words, I re-used the chunk of oasis that was in the basket, a nice change to have things stay where you put them. Although I mostly like the look of less formal arrangements it is fun to ring the changes.

  5. I’d quite forgotten about baskets: they are half the battle 🙂 as even empty they look pretty.
Your Chelsea photos have that veil of romance over them. Nice to see what was on show.

    • You are so right about baskets, I’m glad I nabbed this one before it was thrown in the bin!
I love that you say the photos have ‘a veil of romance’ as it really was a perfect day and my sister and I kept meeting beautiful people and falling just a little bit in love with all of them! ❤

  6. What a sweetly pretty basket – I’m tempted to rush straight out and look at my sisyrinchium (don’t know a common name) for the little twist on the buds! Isn’t it wonderful how we can draw each other’s attention to things we wouldn’t otherwise have noticed? Well done – and good to see more gardens. Would love to walk in the reflexology garden tonight.

  7. Sweet little basket full of nigella and ferns etc. I rather liked the garden Jekka had put together for the hospice and especially liked the fact that most of the plants she had grown herself. How interesting it would be if everyone had to grow 20% of their garden plants to exhibit at the Show.
