16 for 2016: July

These are the targets I have set myself for 2016, inspired by Cathy. Pop over and see how she’s doing with her targets.

16 WALKS (of more than an hour)

8 done, 8 to go.

Four hour walk along the river and round Hengistbury  Head

It wasn’t meant to be quite that long and the day was very hot, we underestimated the distance, but I managed to gather more material for my Beach Clean Art which all helps with the target of 7 paintings.

15 HANDMADE GREETINGS CARDS

11 done, 4 to go

None this month

14 NEW ITEMS IN MY ETSY SHOP

7 done, 7 to go

None this month

13 SWIMS

11 done, 2 to go.

2 more in July – one swim of 26 lengths!!! I was meeting a friend and she got stuck in traffic, so I just kept swimming. I was delighted but the legs were a bit shaky when I got out of the pool. I’m not a good swimmer and my initial target was to do 10 lengths each time so I was very proud of myself.

The next time I did 18 lengths as I had taken Miss E with me and she was so happy in the pool creating swim-gym routines, that again I just kept on swimming.

12 GARDEN POSTS

6 done, 6 to go.

One this month.

I am keeping up with the End of Month View, which is motivating, but a bit embarrassing as the progress is not what I’d like it to be. Hey Ho!

11 HAND MADE TOTE BAGS

Zero

10 TYPES OF HANDMADE BEADS

6 done, 4 to go

None this month

9 PIECES OF TEXTILE ART (started)

3 started, 6 to go

None this month. This feels more like a wet weather project.

8 MORNINGS of SORTING and STORING

3 done, 5 to go.

None this month

7 PAINTINGS (or other pieces of art)

1 done, 6 to go

This is where I have made most progress this month. I have been creating masses of Beach Clean Art as photographs and I’m excitedly in the grip of this new creative obsession. It is taking me on the most marvellous journey. I’ve painted lots of background pieces but there is just one that I am happy with as a finished piece so far – what do you think?

the rest are still works in progress.

6 BUS RIDES (using my bus pass)

2 done, 4 to go

None this month

5 NEW TYPES OF EXERCISE TRIED

4 done, 1 to go

No new ones this month. So far I have tried Pilates, Belly Dancing, a Dance Class, a Zumba-like class.

4 NEW PATTERNS for my ETSY SHOP

Zero

I am disappointed not to have completed some patterns yet – there’s still time.

3 MASSAGES

1 done, 2 to go

None this month – again, it’s more of a cold weather thing for me.

2 WAYS TO HELP REFUGEES

Zero

For now I am going to have to stick to crocheting ‘Squares for Blankets‘, but I am still on the look out for another suitable contribution to make.

1 NOVEL READ

Zero

Still 2 false starts.

I have just been recommended ‘The President’s Hat’, have you read it?

0 BEADS BOUGHT

Zero

Thank you Cathy for this inspiration, it continues to be a great motivator.

  3. You are certainly making progress – well done, and it’s good that it is encouraging you to try new things. Have I recommended BodyPump to you for your exercise target? Excellent class, great for toning. You do realise this is going to get hard each year, don’t you? Except in 2020, when perhaps you are allowed a year off! 😉

  4. You are keeping on track, Daffy. I am loving the Beach Clean Art that you are doing, very colourful and cheery 🙂

  5. I’m not sure what this is, some sort of personal goal challenge? I do like that turquoise piece of textile art, it is just gorgeous.

    • Hi Deborah, yes this is an alternative to the New Year’s Resolutions, which I never make anymore. It is more about setting goals for things you would really like to achieve rather than those you think you should. Pop on over to Cathy’s site and look at hers, she did it in 2015 as well. It is fun t do this alongside others and surprisingly motivating. If things aren’t going the way you thought in January you can slightly adjust your targets to suit – after all there are no rules, only the ones we set ourselves. You’d be very welcome to join us!
Thank you for you lovely feedback on the art work – I’m really enjoying the journey it is taking me on.

    • So glad you enjoyed the post – it has been fun doing the 16 for 16 alongside Cathy. Interesting how it motivates and causes a good honest reassessment of the goals. Thank you for your lovely feedback.

      • It definitely helps! The month I planned stuff I got loads done. I’m not as motivated without goals, and it helps to reflect on what you have achieved. I love the range of goals you have, too.

        • It’s fun, there are a few of us doing it, but as far as I know it is only Cathy and I who post about our progress each month – I’ve already got my draft list for 2017 – would you like to join us?!

          • That sounds fab, thank you! Something for me to plan for. 😊

            • Oh great! It would be really cool to have to join us! The Aran Artisan and Murtagh’s Meadow are both doing it this year, also Let the Sewing Begin, and there may be others I can’t think of right now. You’d be very welcome! 🙂

              • Thank you, now to just hope I don’t need to return to full time teaching and can keep doing supply! (Otherwise I’ll have to stop blogging and crafting unless I get a time turner like Hermione Granger in Harry Potter!) Thanks again. 😊

                • The great thing about the 16 for 16 is that you can tailor it to suit and definitely fill it with things you WANT to do rather than things you think you SHOULD do (some overlap of course, like my sorting and storing mornings). Hope life pans out the way you would like. 😉

  7. You are doing well, especially with exercise and art. Love your beach clean art.

    • Thanks Cathy. I’m really enjoying the swimming when I get there, just wish the pool I like was a bit closer. I’m having such fun with the beach cleaning, glad you like the stuff I’m producing – difficult to know if others can relate to it as well.
