10 TYPES OF HANDMADE BEADS

Both are 8″x8″

And this one, which I entered in our local County Show. I will write a post about the show when time allows. But here is a quick update: We did not get any prizes for the painting, but I did get a first in ‘An Item of Crochet’ for one of my wigs and a couple of Highly Commended in other classes

3 MASSAGES

2 WAYS TO HELP REFUGEES

One done, one to go

Not quite what I had envisaged at the beginning of the year, life sometimes has other plans. It seems unlikely now that I will be making a trip this year, although I have not completely let go of the idea.

I’m never sure about giving money into a general pot but I was so moved by hearing of the work of Liz Clegg in the Calais Jungle on Woman’s Hour that I donated some money directly to her work of providing a women and children’s centre.

And I still have some ‘Squares for Blankets‘ on the go.

1 NOVEL READ

DONE!

Hurray! ‘Enchanted August’ by Brenda Bowen got me there.

A gentle read. A fanciful tale of a group of people spending a month on an island in Maine, US. Not great literature, it didn’t tell me much about Maine and a bit clunky in places but it suited me fine. I enjoyed it.

And I’ve nearly finished a second book which I ordered from the library: ‘The President’s Hat’. Another pleasant read.

0 BEADS BOUGHT

Thank you Cathy for this idea, although things have slipped over the last couple of months, it is still good to look over the things that have been achieved.

  1. Jeepers, you’ve accomplished much of your list. Curious, what exercise class did you enjoy the most?

  2. Belly dancing?! Bravo to you! I’d love to take those walks along your shores. We take one just about everyday along ours. Beautiful beach clean art. Thanks for sharing~cheers

    • I loved the Belly Dancing! commitments have meant I had to stop, but I’ll return another day – it’s a giggle!
Coastal walks are the best! How lovely to get out there every day.
Glad you like the beach clean art – more to come soon. xx

  3. This makes such interesting reading Sandra – and does it enable us to judge fairly accurately which of these tasks you are less enthusiastic about…? 😉 I know what you mean about saving some projects for wet weather – despite not having much in the way of wet weather here I have now almost finished the second of two (summer) dresses which have been waiting AGES (at least since last year!) to be done! Thought I ought to get them done whilst it was still seasonable enough to wear them, despite lack of rain!

    • I’m glad to know you find the list interesting Cathy – hard to know if others will be interested when it is such a personal set of goals. I’m not sure about it showing what I am less enthusiastic about – for example, I’m really enthusiastic about creating knitting and crochet patterns, but it requires the sort of concentration that I find difficult to combine with child and mother care, of which there has been a great deal more of than I could foresee back in January. Life has its unexpected twists and turns and there are still a few months left to go – I’m looking forward to seeing if I can come in with a late burst of creativity. 😉

      • Yes, that’s a good point about the concentration level required – and of course we can’t always plan for these external factors either – I do hope your Mum is improving. Will you try and blitz targets in these last few months or just accept that you have done really well with the ones you have achieved? I was wondering about the bags, as they seemed to be the only things not tackled…

        • Thank you for asking after my Mum – she seems to defy all predictions – so much spirit and grit still there. She has sailed through surgery and is back in the Care Home, carrying on. At least she should be spared the torture of a dislocating hip now, but she says she wants to die several times a day and is hopeful each night that it will be her last – it seems such a cruel way to end a busy, creative and productive life.
Back to the targets – I am still hoping to make some bags, however I’m least confident on the sewing machine and it takes a clear stream of time stretching ahead for me to get into the sewing zone. The material is cut and sitting in a pile waiting for the tide to change! If I don’t get them done this year I might push the bag target into 17 for 17!

          • Oh Sandra, I am sorry that your Mum is saying such things – it must hurt so much hearing them. Such a shame we can’t all end our lives happy and at peace…

            • Oh no Cathy, thanks for your concern but it does not hurt at all – we are a very pragmatic family and I know how she feels and hope the same for her. It will be a joyful day when she can escape what she has to endure each day. Having said that I saw her yesterday and she was happy and smiling, and when I said my goodbyes and ‘see you soon’ she said, ‘I hope not!’ as her joke – black humour carries us through! 😉
