My friend and I walked from Bere Regis car park, through woods,
up to and along Black Hill
past sun-shiny gorse bushes with dense spiders’ nests
down into deep dark sunken lanes
and leafy paths thick with leaf mould underfoot and dappled light ahead
through the village of Shitterton.
(Joining in with Cee’s Which Way Challenge)
The footpath goes between those two cottages.
and into the Drax Arms for my birthday treat, a scrummy Sunday Roast – Thank you lovely walking friend! ❤ (my birthday is on Friday, 11th)
Rounding off the excursion with the obligatory visit to the church, which is huge and full of amazing wooden carvings and this rather sweet sign by a gravestone
A boy named Joy! How delightful.
….. time to light the fire.
Wishing you all a snug evening. ❤

It was a pleasure to join you on that walk – thanks very much. I especially love those hollow-ways with the beech trees spreading their arms protectively over them. You could follow them forever!

It was really good to have you along! It certainly adds a new dimension to walks when to know my blogging friends are with me as I click the shutter. I always look forward to sharing the views.
I know what you mean about following those lanes forever – sometimes I get the feeling I just want to keep on walking into the distance and beyond.

What a wonderful way to spend the day! I envy you your footpaths and historic places (although we in Canada have a few of our own, but not nearly as old). I was especially drawn to your mention of sunken lanes. As it happens, I’m a member of a (closed) Facebook group called Sunken Lanes and Historic Curiosities. (Its founder is also a WordPress blogger.) Feel free to join us there if you wish; you’d be most welcome!

It was a perfect Sunday.
What a great title for a FB group – I will head on over there now!
My son spent part of his gap year farming in Canada – he loved it!

Wonderful! It’s a closed group so you won’t see any of the posts until you join, but there are all manner of (mostly English) historic and archaeological curiosities. What part of Canada did your son spend time in?

I will have to ask him – it was about 20 years ago – I think it was in the middle somewhere – February and very cold – they had to dig him out of his cabin each morning through the snow.

Ha ha, that does sound very cold – and you’re right … probably the Prairies!

Gorgeously Autumnal photographs. Bracken adds so much texture and colour.

Thank you Deb. The colours this year are so rich and yes so good to have that added crispy texture – make me want to create a textile piece to celebrate the colours but for now photos will do.

It is RainbowJ, not too long or difficult and with plenty of variety – maybe we can put it on our list for when you come to Dorset next.
