17 for 2017

Inspired by Cathy at Nanacathy, I joined in with 16 for 2016. It was fun and motivating to have written it down for others to see and sharing the achievements each month with Cathy and other blog readers. No rules, you make them up for yourself as you go along.

I didn’t complete all my targets (you can see how I got on here) but, for me it was good to have an aim and see how I got on and I learnt a lot from it. I’m hoping my 2017 targets are more realistic, whilst still offering challenges.

17 – walks longer than an hour

I often go on walks, but was surprised to discover in 2016 that they are rarely an hour long (most are 30 – 40mins). I love long walks and I love sharing them with Wild Daffodil readers so I feel quite determined to hit this target in 2017.

16 – handmade greetings cards.

15 – beachy things (split into 3 x 5s – 5 pieces of beach related art, 5 beach cleans on new beaches, 5 beach clean sculptures, assemblages or mandalas)

14 – items for my Etsy shop

13 – drawers, cupboards, shelves or boxes sorted out.

12 – WIPs finished

I have an embarrassingly large box full of knitting and crochet W.I.Ps

11 – paintings/ art works

Working towards an exhibition in May/June 2018

10 – house and garden tasks (split into 5x 2s – make two quiches, paint two chairs, complete two house projects, complete two garden projects, raise two pumpkin plants)

9 – textile books worked on.

8 – hand written letters to grandchildren

7 – find 7 interesting objects

(Thank you to Murtagh’s Meadow for this idea)

6 – items made for Pippin or improvements to Pippin.

5  – random acts of kindness

4 – new National Trust properties visited

3 – make three up-cycled items of clothing

I found these sites: Refashionista,  Creating My Way to Success to help me on my way and I’m sure I will discover others.

2 – meet two fellow bloggers

1 – car boot sale

I’ve never been. I’m slightly worried that my propensity for hoarding will get out of hand. I hope to keep this to just the one.

0 – Buy zero new clothes

Make, up-cycle or buy from charity shop. (Apart from specialist activity items – eg I might need a new swim suit – upcycling old ones? – aargh!what a hideous thought!)

Modern clothing manufacture is so very bad for the environment so I’m hoping to cut down on my carbon footprint with this one. Anyone wanting to donate some old clothes for upcycling or using in textile art are VERY welcome to do so!

I am delighted to discover that there is a growing band of us doing 17 for 2017: Mrs Snail, Nanacathy, GillyflowerMurtagh’s Meadow., Ouch My Back hurts, Ruth’s Arc,  Cherie Langlois, Erin’s Big World

Anyone else?

It’s not too late to join in.

And here is another type of aspirational list made by Lillabella Makes

I’m looking forward to reading how we all get on in 2017.

  1. Another one to add to your list is SailiMo, The Willow Witch– just seeing her post in my Reader now.
Actually, now I see you’ve been there but here’s the link anyhow

  2. Sounds like you’re going to be busy! If you don’t get those WIPs finished then your 18 for 2018 can have 0-new projects started 😀

  5. Re walks of more than one hour – for motivation and inspiration take a look at #walk1000miles2017. It sounds impossible but equates to a walking on average at least one hour per day (2.7 miles) and bingo!

  6. Another wonderful list, But I am still reeling from the fact you have never been to a car boot sale. Do you mean never never ever? No . Still struggling. We have been going since the boys were little. We collected Blue Peter Annuals! The boys got toys. We sold on toys and children’s clothes etc. No still can’t get my head round this. Mr E gets tools and all sorts of strange gadgets. My weakness is books and crafty stuff. Are you sure you have never been? I mean really sure.

    • I’m rocking with laughter Cathy! Your comment is so funny – I am a bit surprised myself but no reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaally – NEVER, EVER, EVER!
When my eldest could drive (aged 17, he is now 40) he and his brother and sister would load up the back of a truck with stuff and take it off to Car Boot Sales – I provided a lot of the stuff telling them they could keep what ever money they made – they loved it! But I NEVER went ——- EVER!!!!
      SURE! 😀 😀 😀

  7. A wonderful list. Good luck.

  8. What a great idea. You are really busy and productive! (the sorting-out has been my primary job the last few days — just delivered donations and recyclables and already cleaning out more)

  12. Goodness, I failed on the first day of the year! Had great luck at a New Year’s Day sale with clearance items an extra 50% off. Oh, well:^)

  13. What a good set of goals! It’s a really sensible mix, I think, split between the kinds of things you “ought” to do and the fun things you’ll relish doing!

  14. Nice list.
Poppy, over at “A life less simple” has a great list too: https://alifelesssimple.wordpress.com/2017/01/25/17-in-2017/
I especially like her car-free and screen-free days

  15. Okay, so shall I take part in this? I would have to steal some of your suggestions! I guess it is all very self paced, and you could do it all in one month if you wanted to? I know that would defeat the purpose, but you know me! How do you share? I haven’t a clue how to link into other blogs. Too many questions for a Friday morning!
Good luck and look forward to seeing your progress.

    • Yes! Yes! Yes! Deb – join us! ❤
'Steal' as many suggestions as you like – that's what I did last year, taking my lead from Cathy and having some of the same or similar goals/targets as her.
But now you have 9 to choose from.
It is COMPLETELY self spaced so only you can decide what purpose you want the list to have – so YES do all in one go if that suits you.
Cathy and I have been sharing in each other's comments by leaving a link to our post.
The way I make a link is go to the post, click on the TITLE of the post, see the URL appear at the top of the page, highlight it, go to EDIT, click on COPY {or the shortcut – on my computer it is Command (cmd) and 'C'}, then go to your draft post or comments on someone else's post, and click on PASTE {shortcut= cmd and 'V' on my computer}, if one your own draft post, SAVE it and there you are – done! Try it out and let me know if that works for you.
There might be a little fine tuning to do – get back to me if necessary. Your own blogging host site might also have intstructions in 'HELP', which is how I learnt to do it I think.
      Good luck!
