Week 10 of our One-a-Week Photo Challenge: FLOOR
Ronovan’s weekly Haiku Challenge prompts: KING and DAY
I went to stay with my son and his family in London recently and this is the floor in the hall of their 1950s house – I just love it.
It was such a beautiful sunny Spring day when I arrived at Waterloo so I wandered along the South Bank, one of my favourite walks, there are always fascinating things going on. The tide was high so no beach-combing on this trip. Walking past the Tate Modern towards Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre I came across a poet with a Magic Carpet of poetry
After looking through the titles on the envelopes I chose ‘Butterfly Rhapsody’, which he has in his hand.
He knew all his poems by heart and gave me a rendition of Butterfly Rhapsody – I was entranced – such energy and emotion, so I gave him a donation and have the poem, which I shall put in the textile book I am making for Little Miss M as she loves butterflies. Even though last year she asked her Mum if she could have a butterfly, her Mum asked her if she wanted it as a pet and she said “No, to eat it!”
Well we do put flowers on salads so when you are three ………..
I wish I could tell you the poet’s name but although he signed his work, I can only read his first name – Joseph. I also gave him a Love Rock. Here he is giving another poetic performance.
I wandered on over the Wobbly Bridge and west along the embankment which was bathed in sunshine. It must be a fabulous place to sit in the summer when the lavender bushes are in flower. The walk took me through Victoria Embankment Gardens where mimosa was in full bloom
and this delicately scented viburnum which was growing in a huge pot.

The walk from the Wobbly Bridge to my son’s office took just over an hour and a half, giving me another walk to chalk up towards my 17 for 2017. Loved it!

Cathy and I have created the One-a-Week Photo list. To enter just leave a link in the comments, we’d love to see what FLOORs have fascinated you this week.

Edit: Kerry’s comment below prompted me to find this 1978 song – the day definitely had this as it’s theme tune:
and now I can link to Ritu’s Musical March Meme

Thank you so much Vashti, so glad you enjoyed your virtual visit to London – when I next go to London I will definitely go in search of another street poet – there were a couple of guys a little further along with old typewriters who would write a poem especially for you for a donation – When i went to get one done there was a queue, but next time …………….

Wow, poetry on demand. You have to be extremely creative to be able to do something like that. Go for it! I would love a poem made especially for me.

Is that Solva on the Pembroke coastal path? Where they have a butterfly farm? I somehow loved that area – don’t know why. The sea was bluey green.
I shall have to do a stint as poetry woman – seeing that I know have more than 1000 recent poems. If people pick some up, they would end up like littered MacDonald’s wrappers on the street 😉 at first reading.

The walk I did on this blog post is in London, the poet was outside the Tate Modern. Wow! 1000 poems!!!!!!!! Definitely worth doing something with them – I’m not sure I would have the courage to be a busker though – would you?

Thank you – yes it is very much a ‘Granny’s’ poem isn’t it. Cunning how I got the ‘king’ in though don’t you think – haiku is all about syllables isn’t it! 😉

What a lovely post, Daffy. I love the idea of the poet and his magic carpet, How wonderful that you are going to integrate it into the textile book. The photos of the flowers were gorgeous too, as were the haiku. 🙂

Yes JP – he had written them all and said he could recite any one of them for us so we could choose which one to buy – they were quite long too!!! 😉
It was magical to see him transport himself and us back to his original inspiration for each poem. When I go back to London, I will definitely see if he is still there and get another one – and his name. With his permission I’d love to take a video of him reciting as well – wish I’d thought of that at the time. xx

what is yarm-bombing – even if it is a typo for yarn I wouldn’t know what it means. Stash enlargement ? 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Ha!Ha! Yarn bombing is leaving items made of yarn in public places, or covering lamp posts, railing or trees with decorative crochet or knitting – go to Google images – be warned your senses might be on overload! Ha! 😉
(will correct typo!)

I have seen images of that in Melbourne, on a grand scale it seems. didn’t realize it has come over here to the UK now. That would need a lot of yarn to have any impact – I’m thinking the millennium bridge.
Is it for charity? Have you any pix to show ?

I think people do it for all sorts of different reasons – mainly for fun. I haven’t actually done any myself so far.
