Photos taken in July at Dr. Beynon’s Bug Farm, St. Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
We went there for Little Miss M’s 5th birthday treat. After a delicious lunch
of cooked bugs
and a fabulous birthday cake
we all went to the bughandling session
when everyone had to hold the bugs VERY gently
We all loved it! Master R was particularly delighted when one of the insects climbed up his face.
The food in Grub Kitchen is truly delicious. There are non-bug options too.
If you are looking for an unusual Christmas gift you can order some Cricket Cookies and other goodies from Bug Farm Foods.
You can keep up to date with what they are up to on their Facebook Page.

There are still a few months to assign a word to – any suggestions for August, September and October? I’d love to hear from you with your ideas – either leave them in the comments or Contact Me here.
See you next week for ‘WINDOW’.

I’ll try almost anything once but, after my inability to keep locusts down (a charity event) due to an extremely irritating gag reflex, I’m not sure the bugs would have fared any better with my pathetic bodily responses! What a fantastic experience for young children, though.

Oh dear! That sounds horrid! I bet your boys would have loved them though!

HaHa! I realised Karina and have corrected it. I will delete this comment later.

I think it is great to get kids up close and personnel with bugs of all kinds.

Yes, I agree. All those new experiences and little bits of knowledge they gain will hopefully help them to understand the value of all creatures and why we need to care for them.

I went to a 4-H insect workshop once, lots of snacks there too! You definitely captured gentle, though I am happy watching from afar!

Ha!Ha! Luckily none of us a phased by bugs – it might come from all being brought up on a farm. Eating them was a bit different though, although everyone ate them in the end.

I admire the children, they are made of much sterner stuff than I, who would probably be screaming my head off! 🙂

Ha!Ha! it was a fun thing to do with the children, the farm introduced them in a very careful way.

Rather you than me! I don’t mind spiders but not to keen on those bugs and I have never fancied eating them either.

Most of them don’t really taste of anything, just a bit crunchy. It was a novel way to celebrate a 5 year olds’s birthday – I was pleasantly surprised to see how adventurous the children were, trying everything with interest.

I don’t think I will be joining you for lunch. Glad no critters were harmed in the session, good gentle children
