Inspired by this fabulous material, I made some more felted coasters.
They started out like this, made in Stylecraft Special DK and a 4.5mm hook
I blocked them as usual, under a damp cloth, on my poor old ironing board.
Then put them on a piece of card on a low wooden table, placing another piece of card over them and with the iron on the hottest setting applied as much pressure as I could, circling the iron for about a minute.
The result was these silky looking coasters
The pattern is the centre of the Amanzi Block by Jen Tyler.
Now I’m wondering about some placemats to go with them …..

I don’t know if anyone else has done it – I’m sure they must have done somewhere – it just occured to me to give it a try and I’m really pleased with the result. i’m always experimenting – but so many experiments are not useful at all!!!!! 😀 Ha!

I’m pleased that you may have invented it – I love it! Do you think the results have anything to do with the particular makeup of the yarn used?

Oh yes I’m sure different yarns would produce different effects – you’ve got me wanting to try another make of acrylic yarn now……. love the way we all inspire each other. ❤

I wasn’t only thinking place mats, before I got to that bit, I was mentally crocheting the smaller units together for larger things. I have not made this kind of felt, but have an old bamboo calendar I’m holding on to for when I get around to it. Such fun!

Your chair is amazing and the coasters are very pretty and functional, and yes to place mats.

It does feel a bit odd to be crocheting away, knowing that it will all be flattened – but I’m loving the result.

They look great – and you’re simultaneously reducing the chance of them shedding fibres!

Oh yes, these are brilliant and so much more functional flattened in this way. Love the chair fabric!!!

Isn’t it fabulous – it is by a firm called Timorous Beasties – wildly expensive but worth it for the effect – I think you’d call it a statement piece! (ps. the chair is not mine!) the coasters are a present for the owner of the chair.
