Coastal Cosy: WiP Wednesday

coastal cosy stripe

This is so relaxing to make and I’m enjoying making up the colour order as I go.

I started from the top of the picture with sky:

Cloud Blue, Sherbert, Cream, Soft Peach, Sherbert, Cream, Buttermilk, Soft Peach, Silver, Cloud Blue.

Then the sea:

Denim, Petrol, Storm, Denim, Aster, Cloud Blue, Petrol, Aster, Cloud Blue, Sherbert.

Breaking waves in Cream, Sherbert, Cream

onto a sandy beach: Buttermilk, Camel, Buttermilk

and one row of pebbles in Silver.

All in Stylecraft Special DK (acrylic) and a 4.5mm hook.

Pattern: Cosy Stripe by Lucy at Attic24.

I have made this pattern before when I joined in with Lucy’s Crochet Along (Cal) and I’m loving making another.

Graphite rocks will come next and then some grassy cliffs, followed by more sky …………

and so to choose more pink for the sunrise/sunset

Soft Peach is in the first bit of sky. Do I keep it calm and soft and gentle by just adding Pale Rosecrochet blanket

Or liven it up with the corals of Pomegranate and Blush

sunset pinks

Or go wild and vibrant by adding Fushcia Purple and Pomegranatefuchsia purplecoastal colours

Which I think would require a more colourful sea beneath it, so I would add Empire into the blues. That Empire blue is much more vibrant in reality – you can see all the colours on the Wool Warehouse website here. But even there it is difficult to see the true colour. Blush is much more peachy pink than it looks on the website.

Which pinks would you choose? I’d love to know!

As Miss E would say when she was about 2 “cany’elp me?”

  5. Definately think it is time to add some stronger shades, love your idea of adding the Empire blue then moving into the pinks. Having said that all the colours are gorgeous so whatever combination you go with will work in the completed project.

    • Thank you for your comment, it is fun discussing colours – I’m always tempted to go into stronger shades, and I have not used corals for a long time …… so maybe I’ll go down that route ……. decisions, decisions!

  8. Very pretty. I’ve been staring at it trying to decide what colours I would choose. I’m going to go for the pale pink, and then repeat all the existing shades of blue, which are lovely and calming. I’m obviously not a very exciting person. I wouldn’t want to liven it up at all. I suppose I like a quiet life too. All the best. Very thought provoking. Karen

    • Thanks so much for your considered reply Karen – I just love conversations like this. I think I am leaning towards keeping this blanket calm and cosy. I love bright colours but sometimes the balance of calm is needed.

  9. Such wonderful detail!!! How long did it take for you to make?

    • Thank you Cee, this is the sort of crochet that I can do whilst doing other things like child care and watching TV so I always think of it as taking no time at all. As I have multiple projects on the go and dip in and out of them it is hard to say how long they take. 🙂

I’m torn between jazzing it up and keeping it soothing. Good luck!

  19. If you wanted a sunset related colour that wasn’t too vibrant have you thought of Shrimp? It’s a sort of orangy pink. I think it would go with the other colours. I am quite liking the gentle colour feel to the blanket. The brighter colours could be interesting but would definitely change the feel of things. Just my opinion.

  20. It really does look like the coast, so given the British weather I think we need some thunder clouds and some lightening, maybe a bit of hail…., plastic waste, some Beryl Cook figures, icecream, deckcahirs and wind breaks….

  21. Well, the first bit is very calm, like a soft hug, the new colors are lovely, and would make it more of a joyful song. Depends on the day for me! Maybe that’s why you are struggling to choose! Either would be lovely.

    • Thank you Pauline! Sometimes it sings out at me and I just know – and sometimes I flip flop back and forth with decisions.

      • I did exactly that – flip-flopping – when I was choosing my colours for the Persian Tiles. I made my choice, second guessed myself, third guessed, reverted to the original choices and ordered, then thought I’d have to order more colours because I’d got it wrong…… Eventually after playing with what I had I got the combination right. Gah!! I think as it was a gift from The Snail, I felt the pressure to do it right 🙂 I think you will intuitively know what is right, the beginning of this blanket is so perfect and you chose those colours!
