Mmmmmmm ….. those irises – the colour, the shape, the markings, the scent – I greet them each morning with my first cuppa,
and couldn’t resist bringing one inside …
to go with a collection of other plant shapes
From left to right
- A local farm shop has started selling milk in returnable glass bottles Hurray! In this one are rooted cuttings of my spectacular epiphyllum
- A miniature bottle of wine, so cute I couldn’t throw it away, with Mare’s Tail that is rampant in my front garden – I love it’s shape and design and the way it captures the dew in the morning, I respect that it has been on this planet much longer than humans – if only it did not want to take over the world.
- A chirpy marigold in a teeny Victorian bottle with NOT TO BE TAKEN moulded into the glass – but I will be eating the petals of the flower sprinkled on a salad later.
- Another miniature wine bottle, bought for the bottle’s shape this time. With chives.
- Miniature wine bottle which came as a ‘favour’ at my son’s wedding, with one of my beloved irises in it.
- A bottle which held an organic fruit drink now holds a sprouting acorn, which I pulled up from my lawn. Squirrels bury them in autumn, and I have never seen one being retrieved. A mini forest grows at this time of the year.
Do you have anything to pop in a vase (or a bottle) this Monday? If you do, how about joining in with Cathy and her pals over at Rambling in the Garden.
Also joining Cee who has a glorious photo of a beautifully flouncy Bearded Iris for her Flower of the Day
Have you seen any of these little white spiders in your garden? I’ve seen a few recently having never seen them before. So cute!
I had to look it up and believe it is a Crab Spider.
They do not make webs but lie in wait for their prey. Some can turn yellow or light green if necessary to merge with their surroundings.
This is an interesting and pretty display. Another idea to store away.

Thank you Alison, so glad to know you liked my ‘specimen’ display.

Your collection of vases and their contents is so lovely and different from a big bunch in one container. I do like the variety of shapes you chose. And you have reminded me to cut my chive flowers for tonight’s salad! 😉

Isn’t it lovely to eat flowers from the garden!

Love your irises! My early ones are blooming this morning, pictures coming. I just hope my fancy late ones bloom this year, only a few last year, so I’m hoping for a real show this May/June. Love the two tones, those are some of my favorites.

My irises have never been better – they are the only plants in my garden that seem to have benefitted from a bitterly cold spell in March.

Your irises look lovely. I too like irises though I don’t think I could fit any in my garden. 😦 Like the bottle collection too.

Thank you RJ. I will be thinning the irises after they finish flowering, would you like to try a plant? You might be able to grow them in a pot.

Kind idea but I have limited areas with sun and only have pots now in the front where there is less sun. Which reminds me I have totally forgotten that pots need watering!

Love this spring sampling in a collection of bottles. I’ve got quite a few squirrels (and oak seedlings) myself. It’s so nice to see your irises now that mine have come and gone. Cute little spider!

Thank you Terri. Your irises must come very early in the year – I hope to have mine for a few weeks yet – there are plenty of buds, if I can keep the snails off them.

What a gorgeous little arrangement of bottles. I wonder how many other milk bottles were made to be so pretty before they get returned to your local shop!

Lovely collection, and thank you for giving details on the bottles. Am not a drinker, so hadn’t any idea such lovely shapes could be had for miniature vases! xx

Love your little bottle collection. I really like irises too but mine are not even close to flowering

I suppose you are a bit further North but I’m surprised mine are so far ahead.

You have a wonderful collection of tiny bottles! Your bearded Iris is similar, and possibly identical, to the Iris I featured in one of my vases this week. It’s the only bearded Iris that’s chosen to bloom in my garden at all this year following our paltry winter rain and valued all the more for that.

Wow! yes we have the same iris – How wonderful! I tried to leave a comment on your post but I don’t see it there, I seem to have problems with certain blog hosts – do my comments go into Spam? Love those magnificent white poppies you have.

Love your selection of blooms and contents, Sandra, and I know what you mean by Mare’s Tail as I find it rather attractive. Nevertheless, I am not unhappy that it hasn’t made it to my garden!!

Love your arrangement of bottles showing off the forms of each specimen rather well. If only Mare’s tail didn’t spread so much. I love its shape.

A collection of bottles is a lovely idea with your special Iris taking pride of place. I have the spiders and can vouch for the fact that they can change colour dramatically.

Lovely collection of vases and contents. Our irises aren’t out yet. Still picking grape hyacynths and bluebells here.

Normally grape hyacinths grow like a weed here but I think they were annihilated by The Beast from the East, as I have very few. I’m sure they will get busy and fill the garden again in a couple of years.
