  4. Hi Doreen. I LOVE Dahlias, they are a favorite and multi-generational favorite of my family. I have posted several photos and have several more to post on Cee’s Flower of the day. What is your source for the bulbs? Do you remove them from the ground each fall?

    • Hi Joe, thanks for popping by. I am not Doreen, although I had the huge pleasure of meeting her on this visit to her garden. She told me that as she lives in this very sheltered coastal spot (Branscombe in Devon, South of England) she does not lift her dahlias. She cuts them right back to the ground and mulches them and they come up good and strong each year.
I will be writing another post about her garden soon.

      • We usually mulch ours, as does my uncle, a retured college biology teacher, but this year we had some unusual weather that was warm and wet early. “waking” the bulbs. Then we had cold and several did not survive. We are still debating whether to lift or mulch.

However at this time my dahlias are blooming themselves to oblivion because I pumped the Miracle Gro Bloom Booster to them trying to get them ready for our son’s wedding.
