New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Joining Rambling in the Garden

flatlay, fireworks, oak twigs

Question: If you were from another planet looking down at the Earth and saw a globe struggling with pollution, war, famine and the lack of resources given to health and social care……..How would you feel about seeing so much time and energy (and money) being sent up into an already struggling atmosphere for a few moments of transient beauty?

I make a plea for those resources to be redirected into our hospitals, giving homes to the homeless, preventing conflict, paying more to our carers and more scientific research into clean technology.

❤ ❤ ❤

Of course, with all of my heart, I wish you all a very happy New Year, bringing health and happiness to you and your families.

❤ ❤ ❤

I also wish for a raised awareness to come like an asteroid into our collective consciousness, otherwise our future is too bleak to contemplate.

  2. Thank God for crochet 😀 It should be prescribed to the angry stressed out masses along with a ban on watching the News 😂

  3. That’s horrendous to hear, the selfishness of foolish people can be unbearable at times 😖 x

  4. I agree, I hate fireworks for so many reasons, here’s just a few: the noise, the litter, the fear for animals, the cost, the damage, the injury … all for a fleeting moment of awe. Nature provides this everyday if we’d just see 😖 I’m sure intelligent watchers of this planet shake their heads (however many they have) in dispair x

    • I’m with you on all of those reasons!
My daughter and son-in-law are dairy farmers and a New Year’s Eve party with fireworks that sounded like bombs and went on for 30 mins a couple of years ago, just next door to the farm (!) caused the cows to stampede into barriers – many injuries and 4 of the cows were so badly injured they had to be killed.
Mindless, senseless, ridiculous, ignorant, selfish, damaging behaviour!!!!!!
      Ooops!
There I go! Off like a rocket!

  7. Well said and wished for Sandra! I agree with your thoughts on looking down on the earth and what can be seen more than my words can express. This past year I have actively sought out the unreported human endeavours of the world and am quietly confident that there is far more good and healthy initiatives, activities and people than the news media would have us know about. I sometimes feel I am a one woman band saying ‘turn off the news’ and be surprised by the resulting lifting of emotions, easing of depressions and energy you have for joining in with the good activities. 2019 will be better if we stop hoping and start doing. xo

  9. The pall of current circumstances really has hung over the holidays this year. Every morning newscast sets my blood boiling within minutes, yet I remain hopeful that people with dreams and goodwill will manage to toss out the nasty, greedy individuals currently running the show. Best wishes for positive action in the new year!

    • I know what you mean Kris, I avoid the News as much as possible and go to discussion programmes if I want to know more. I seek out positive stories – there is good news – we just don’t get to hear about it enough.
      Positive action in 2019! Yay!

  10. I join you in your hopes. Your firework is much more enjoyable to me than the loud and dangerous ones that so many set off.

  11. Wise words, Sandra. I do believe the tide will turn as every little step adds up, but it may still be a long journey.
Your twiggy firework is another astounding piece of work – you do this sort of thing so well and this is brilliant! Well done you 🙂

  13. I agree with everything you’ve said. Amazing where we can find money, when we’re told there’s no magic money tree, yet we can afford to pay a ferry company £14 million, the fact they have no ferries is but a minor detail. Still, here’s hoping someone will come to their senses in 2019. Happy New Year and may it be a peaceful one 😊

    • Lovely to know I’m not alone!
The farcical goings on in the so-called governing of our country would be hilarious if it weren’t so tragic.
Thank you for your Happy New Year wishes – I too wish for peacefulness and politicians finding some common sense from somewhere. ❤

      • I know. I was laughing on Twitter last night when someone put a picture of Del Boy, Rodney and Grandad with a rusting old ship in the background and said “A photo of the Seaborne Freight owners”. Thought it was hilarious and then thought hmm it’s not really funny, you just couldn’t make it up really. Ah well.

  14. Not a bad fairy at all! I hate fireworks and could happily live without them going off at any time of the year. Ditto helium filled balloons – why isn’t there a law against them??? Wishing you and yours all the best for 2019.

    • 🙂 Thank you for your comment Elizabeth. Like so many things we just go too far – it is like a war zone here for about a week around November 5th as well.
I agree, fireworks should be legally confined to a few modest organised public events.
      And no-one NEEDS helium balloons!
      Happy 2019!

  18. All too true, sadly. Everyone has fireworks for New Year here in Italy. A very Happy New Year to you. We must all hope for better for 2019

  19. And did you know that we are in danger of running out of helium and yet people still use it to fill balloons? I’m hoping they work out how to do nuclear fusion then we can make our own!!
