Quaking grass, sisyrinchium, and nigella sit in a nightlight holder above a few blooms of hypericum. I particularly enjoyed the way the setting sun played with the grass, making shadows.

Life continues to be distracting in these weird times. I have been perked up by some lovely warm messages and a delicious gift of goodies last week from Feed the Soul
There is plenty of crafting going on, to keep me on an even keel, but I seem to have no ability to order my thoughts into blog posts about it.
If you want to see what I am getting up to, look to the right and see my Instagram posts. Even there, my garden features strongly – it is my haven of peace and happiness at the moment.
Astrantia is one of the stars of the show, joining Cee’sFlower of the Day.
A plant I bought at a garden gate in Weobley in 2015.
I do hope you are able to enjoy some good weather and sunshine, even down under where you are approaching midwinter. We are enjoying some fabulous weather here.

I love Quaking grass and those shadows are exactly why. It is a difficult time to be motivated Sandra but thanks goodness you can occupy yourself with making things and growing things.x

I love Quaking grass, it is new to me this year and the way it catches the light and the slightest breeze is a delight. A friend of mine calls them wim-wams.
I really is a difficult time, in so many new and subtle ways, and sometimes I can’t pin down exactly why. I am so grateful for my garden and my enormous stash of yarn and fabric! Stay safe and well.

Really love the vase and the way you have photographed it with the shadows. Your Astrantia is worthy of much envy and that border just gets better and better. May June bring you more peace of mind Sandra. xx

Great vase photograph and I think I can guess what you ar making. Sorry life is making you feel distracted but the excess of sun we have had lately is certainly a blessing in these difficult times. And your garden looks amazing as does that last flower. Keep looking after yourself. ❤️

Those shadows mean you get 2 ‘vases of flowers’ for the price of one – like reflections. Your garden is so colourful whilst mine is rather sad from thirst. keep cherishing yourself and whilst it is lovely to read your posts please don’t make a chore of writing them!

Thank you, it is so important to keep blogging for fun isn’t it.
My garden is also in need of a drink – hopefully tonight – there is rain forecast. Yippee!

Your abundant garden looks wonderful. I envy you the Astrantia, a plant I’ve tried and failed to grow twice now. I’ve been seeking solace in my garden too. As the pandemic continued, it was hard to believe that things could get worse, until they did.

Radical change for the better, must come out of all this surely!
For now I am extremely grateful that I am able to sit tight at home for as long as it takes and potter about in the garden.

I’m glad to read you haven’t been blogging much – you seem to have disappeared off my list and I see here I amn’t ‘following’ so have to fix that. Many little glitches on WP right now!! Your garden looks beautiful. Our weather has been quite late summery for all of lockdown, though further north is having flooding and severe weather off and on. We are waiting to see if the goal of ‘elimination’ (which is not ‘eradication’) has been achieved – another week to see if the numbers continue to remain at zero while life is enacted at all but ‘normal’.

Such a sweet little vase, and I am pleased you had the motivation to put it together, as it will feed your soul for a number of days like your gift of goodies. How kind of the giver to give you a boost like this. Your border is looking fantastic, Sandra – what are the red blooms? Are they geum?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes Geums, just 3 plants! I love the way they are tall and arc out to mingle with the other plants. I’m pretty sure it is one called Mrs J Bradshaw: https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/65802/Geum-Mrs-J-Bradshaw-(d)/Details
It is the one suggested by the RHS that will cope with wet in winter and dry in summer.

I though it looked like Mrs Bradshaw but it just looks really tall in your border – it must enjoy it there!

I banked up the border with dumper bags of brand new top soil. So the flowers might look taller than they are. The stems are about 60cm as mentioned by the RHS.

Ah, yes, they do look taller than that, so that explains it. They certainly look great in your border

I just went out and measured them – some are a metre long! They must be enjoying the new top soil. I wonder how they will do next year.

You have made my day Cindy. I get so much inspiration from fellow bloggers, I am absolutely cock-a-hoop when it goes the other way.
There are a lot of self-seeded plants in the border. I liberally scatter seed when it is produced, then I thin things out a bit here and there and plant other things in and around the self-seeded ones. That way I don’t have to worry about placement or design – nature does it for me. 🙂

Cheesecake!! I haven’t got a particularly sweet tooth for most things but I do love a good cheesecake. I might get my act together and make one tomorrow but I’ve already put on a few pounds during lockdown – dare I go down the cheesecake road.
The Astrantia at the end is blooming gorgeous – it looks to be glowing.

Vegan cheescake to boot!
I don’t like sweet things generally, but this is utterly divine!!! I have made it last a few days, with just a morsel now and again. There is coconut in the base as well …. mmmmmmmmm!

That top picture is fabulous. Love the shadows. And oh, that food looks good. My thoughts, too, tend to fly around, especially now that the United States is burning. Son of a biscuit, what a year! I am following the poet David Whyte’s advice: I am putting one foot in front of another. Forward, forward, no matter how slow the progress. I’ve also taken a break from FaceBook, which was wearing me down. Feel a little better already. Stay safe, be well!

I feel for you, so much pain and sadness, violence and protest. I heard a US black guy on our news say – “this is the only way to get them to listen” – he might be right. A volcano erupting from the build up of hundreds of years of abuse. We humans are given so many opportunities to change, but ……..
I hope. Surely change has to come.
Son of a biscuit! (this makes me smile) What a year indeed!
Stay safe and well.
Hugs.
