There are still a few Hesperantha or Kafir Lily, or River Lily blooming in the garden. They seem to like my soggy garden.
I try to get rid of the arum plants but they are very persistent and the leaves do cheer up a vase at this time of year.
The little green pot with a labyrinth was sold as a nightlight holder, but makes a sweet vase.
These 3 different types of moss seem to grow happily together in an old saucer on the bathroom windowsill. In another life I might like to study all the different types of moss – fascinating.
I found this on the Woodland Trust website about UK mosses.
I am joining Cathy for her regular feature: ‘In a Vase on Monday’.
A lovely way to start the New Year.
I too love the moss bowl with it’s varieties ….

I have since discovered that ‘moss-on-a-plate’ is a thing – if you Goggle you can see lots of examples.

Amazing to be able to pluck actual flowers from the garden in January!

Yes, Kathy, I fear it is a sign of global warming.

What a gorgeous vase Sandra! I love the flowers and foliage together, but they look even better in your collection of wood logs and the moss. I read a book all about moss years ago and bought myself a magnifying glass to hang around my neck while out and about so I could inspect different sorts. It is fascinating stuff close up! 😃

What a brilliant idea Cathy. I have a magnifying glass somewhere. I could do the same with lichen. Thank you! ❤

How pretty. My hesperantha is long gone. I love your mossy dish, what a great idea.

I am a little further south and west, and it has been mild here. Christmas is rarely cold nowadays, let alone white.

You know how much I liked your pale pink hesperantha, Sandra, so it was like seeing an old friend again, and the mossy saucer is really pretty too. Lots of moss here, as you will have noted!!

Yes, Cathy, I was wondering today when would be the best time to lift some for you. They are still sending up a few new shoots, so I will wait a while. It has been so mild here.

Ooh, thank you Sandra – I wasn’t angling in my comment, just hopeful in the longer term…!

I love the moss bowl creation. The Hesperantha are beautiful. Every time I see those flowers, I think I should try growing them, but if they like moist soil I guess that’s a non-starter ;(

Maybe a well watered pot would work?
But there might be better candidates for your conditions. 🙂

Or January? 🙂
It has been very mild and wet here, but the forecast if for a colder spell soon.

Thank you Lakshmi. I am amazed the moss grows so well in a saucer.

I like all elements of your Monday vase. The Hesperantha is lovely. Is it growing indoors or outside? The moss is beautiful–great idea to grow it indoors. My arum has finally disappeared after years of me feeling guilty. I bought it before knowing it’s listed as invasive here. The patterns are wonderful. And of course, the labyrinth vase itself is intriguing. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
The Hesperantha grows outside. My garden is very damp for most of the year, so there are lots of plants that don’t survive but this one likes it.

I know nothing about mosses but love the different forms.

Like you I know nothing about mosses, except that they like damp places. Intriguing.
