I wonder if this sculpture is a candidate for Silly Saturday.
Is it silly, clever, fun, crazy?
Knitted Sculpture by Jiaxi Li
One of the exhibits at the Harrogate Knitting and Stitching Show.
I love the idea and the colours and can only imagine how much experimentation went into working out how to create a self-supporting knitted sculpture of the fireplace. I hope it finds the right home.
I am certainly interested in seeing more work by this artist.
You can see more of her work here and on Instagram.
This is wonderful, Sandra – the concept, the execution and the end result. Not that it would sit anywhere in our house, but as a piece of art it’s gloriously striking!

If you go to her Instagram page you can see this piece turning round, so you can see the back as well. And clicking on the other link you can see a sink in pink made as a wall light – now THAT I would have in my house. 🙂

I don’t ‘do’ Instagram, but will see if I can get on it to have a look…

Sort of weird. Very clever but don’t think I could live with it.

I agree. I have been trying to think where it would go well, apart from a gallery.

I like the idea but not the execution.

It is a fun idea isn’t it.
I feel quite relieved that my creative mind is happy to leave knitted sculpture alone!

Sadly, I don’t think I’m qualified to properly appreciate this work, I don’t knit! I can’t even begin to grasp how much work is involved…

It boggles my mind to think of making such an object, but I know how the itch of an idea sometimes will just not let one go until it is done.

Yes, that particular feeling is familiar, but unlike sewing, knitting is a total mystery. I can do plain and purl and cast on and off, but that’s IT!
