Silly Saturday with Mrs Moss

Mrs Moss was up with the lark

Taking Lichen her dog to the park

They walked everywhere

To get lots of fresh air

And didn’t get home til ‘twas dark!

 

Mossie was a sturdy old stick

Very rarely did she get sick

At seventy years old

Fit, adventurous and bold

She can even still do a high kick!

 

Out and about every day

Visiting places and pals on the way

She was going to tea

With the Shelbys by the sea

And was buying some cake on the way.

Result of the Christmas Card Giveaway

There is SO much I’m itching to tell you about, my mnd is in a bit of a happy whirl with it all. I went away for a couple of fun-packed, creativity-packed weeks and it is taking me ages to come back to earth and order my thoughts enough to make some coherent blog posts. But first – the results of the Giveaway!

19 people voted, 18 wanted to be included in the Christmas Card Giveaway

Thank you so much to all who let me know which picture they liked the best

It was a close run between the all white card and the one with the green hearts

Votes as follows:

9 votes for the White Tree

6 votes for the Green Hearts

4 votes for the Red Berries

Most of my family liked the Green Hearts best so I decided to have the White Shells and the one with the Green Hearts printed. And the proofs have arrived – but I’m not happy with them. They don’t seem to have the vibrancy they need. So I will need to go back to the printer and see if we can sort that out. A shame as I was hoping to have them ready to send out by now.

Anyway – enough of that – you want to know who won!

I wrote the names on some pages I was using for collage

 

folded them and popped them in a bag and asked Cathy’s husband Mr E. to pick out three pieces of paper for me.

Shell Art and a Giveaway

Help!

I have created 3 shell Christmas trees and I’m wondering if one of these designs would make a good Christmas/ Winter Solstice/ Seasonal Celebration card…..

Do you think they would make good cards?

If so, which one? I can’t decide.

The cards would not have the watermark on them when printed. They would be blank inside, with my name a web address on the back.

Knolling, Flat Lay, Assemblage Art

As you can see I’m learning even more new terms.

The honeysuckle in my garden is having a second flush of blooms and the scent is heavenly in these sunny Autumn days. It inspired this Flat Lay piece of Assemblage art which includes a few verbascum blooms and birch leaves.

And did you know about Knolling ……… no? Nor me ….until I was enlightened by Instagram

knolling is “the process of arranging like objects in parallel or 90 degree angles as a method of organization”.

I’m so fascinated by the markings on these leaves

Yesterday’s spiral of leaves were drying out but still looking gorgeous enough to adorn with some Marigold petals and Honeysuckle

Oh! Ah! Oooo! the morning dew on Marigolds!!!!!!  I’m just loving this Autumn.

I’m not a fan of yellow flowers in the garden as a rule, but couldn’t you just dive into this buxom bloom.

Why not add some honeysuckle berries

I did 3 hours of digging in my garden yesterday in the Battle Against Bamboo (and bindweed!) So I could enjoy some guilt free playtime with petals and leaves.

I’m learning all sorts of new terms through Instagram hashtags. I had no idea that arranging things like this had a name – it is called ‘Flat Lay’ apparently. I have done this ever since I was a kid – I just love arranging things, now I have a proper grown-up name for it.

January Sales

Miss Shelma received her weekly pay

And decided to spend it on a lovely day.

With her handbag swinging she strolled into town

Thoughts of the high street banishing her frown.

Out of the hairdresser’s and back into the shops

Shelma looked radiant in her little white frock.

She was having a blast in the January sales

Snapping up bargains and browsing the rails.

Hundreds of dresses, thousands of shoes

Shelma was verging on January sales blues.

She hailed a cab: ‘ To Sheldon Street’, she cried

And collapsed with all those lovely bags by her side.

A guest poet today, my dear friend Sue. We have known each other for over 40 years. She introduced me to Dr. John Cooper Clarke’s poems and occassionally we have poetic exchanges via email. Sue is not a blogger and doesn’t follow blogs but we share a love for all things arty. I was thrilled that the shell collage inspired her to write a poem and name this little person Shelma from Sheldon Street.

Halloween Party

Judy and I present to you another very Silly Saturday…… Ta Dah!

The Halloween party was in full swing

On the beach, in the middle of the night

The Shelleys were doing the ‘Moonwalk’

Under its bright, silver light

Later, when they got hungry

There was plenty for them to eat

Ghoulash, or stake and chips main course

Key Slime Pie or Pustard for sweet.

Drinks or course were a-plenty

Snot chocolate or a nice cup of pee

Maybe some whine would be better

For their Halloween festivities.

They all held hands as they walked home

Dressed as they were, all in white

I bet that if you had seen them

They would have given you a hell of a fright!

Walking to the seaside one day

Grandpa and Granny met friends on the way

They had quite a fright

Realising something wasn’t right

At a loss to know what to say.

 

There was an Ugly Shell Show

And the friends had decided to go

They transformed their features

Into hideous creatures

That, Grandpa and Granny didn’t know.

 

Granny had got such a scare

What had happened to poor Wilbur’s hair?

And Micky’s disguise

With massive bug eyes

And those lips…Wow, what a huge pair!

 

Even their little Sonny joined in

With the sockets of his eyes coloured in

Jill’s face was so flat

Like she’d been hit by a bat

Another fun collaboration this Saturday with Judy. I send her a photo of some shell characters – and I just love what happens next – Judy gives the characters life and let’s me know what on earth they are up to and that in turn sparks another idea in my mind and sends me back to the boxes of shells, pebbles and pieces of coral.

I expect you know by now how much I love to join forces with other creative minds. If any of the characters that appear on our Silly Saturdays spark an idea for a story or a poem, please get in touch. Judy and I are tentatively thinking of putting a little book together and we would both love it if it could be a group effort from our wonderful blogging community. All very much in the early stages and we welcome thoughts and ideas. I’m wondering about an ebook with sales going to charity … but all those details are up for discussion. Here’s a reminder of the characters so far.

We are being battered by yet another storm here – it’s been given the name Brian – I’m not sure I like this naming of storms.

A good excuse, if one were needed, to get on with my crochet, whilst dreaming up another bit of fun to have with the Shelleys and the Stones.

Grandpa and Sonny love walking

Strolling along on the sand

Or perhaps a dip in the water

With Grandpa holding his hand

 

Splashing about in the water

Frolicking in the hot sun

Enjoying precious moments together

Staying with grandpa was always such fun

Monday Mandala

 

Joining Cathy of Rambling in the Garden for her ‘In a Vase on Monday’ international Garden Party. I love this meme so much and enjoy seeing what gardeners from all over the world pop in a vase every Monday.

My garden has slipped way down the list of priorities this year and I don’t have many flowers growing at the moment. Yesterday was the first day for ages that circumstances aligned for me to be able to spend the whole day tackling the jungle it has become. As I cut back, slashed and weeded, I saved the few flowers I found and plonked them in jam jars hoping to be able to make up a vase for today ….

I looked at this sorry collection and realised something was needed for added value.

 

So I lay one of my paintings-in-progress on the floor and then I drifted off into a very happy place playing with petals and leaves

The words are a quote I have adapted from the book ‘Conversations With God’ Book 2 by Neale Donald Walsch, the quote is “a woman hears the melody of flowers in the wind”, but I wanted to change it so that everyone could relate to it.

Little Miss M (5) was here a few days ago, she loves to have music playing – her favourite at the moment is ‘500 miles’ by the Proclaimers, she says she wants to walk 500 miles with me – now there’s an ambition! We were both dancing to the song and she looked out at the wind blowing through the plants in the garden and said,

“Look Granny, the garden is dancing with us!”

I first met Eddie (I call her Eddie as at first I did not know her real name) via Ronovan’s Weekly Haiku Challenge a few years ago. I love her look on life and her poems always bring a smile and sometimes a nod and a wink! Judy has produced a wonderful book of her poems: “Rhymes of the Times”  . You can also see her reading her poems on You Tube. There is always a touch of humour and the last lines of her poems often bring a surprise that have me laughing out loud.

I was lucky enough to be able to meet Eddie and the lovely Mr. Grump back in March 2016. (click the link to see a photo of us together)

I absolutely LOVE working creatively with others, bouncing ideas around and coming up with something that brings different ways of looking at things together – this has been FUN! Thank you SO much Eddie. ❤

Maybe we will do it again sometime – I hope so!
