Wigs and Blankets

Attic24 Dahlia crochet along

As Storm Dennis rages outside and local social media is full of trees falling on cars, high banks sliding across country lanes and coast paths collapsing, I am staying safe and cosy, warming myself up with a wonderful array of oranges, pinks and purples.

The blanket above is my version of Attic24’s current Dahlia inspired Crochet Along. I have been loosely following Lucy’s Colourwash version. I just can’t resist playing around with the colours, using the way Lucy puts colours together as a jumping off point.

This is the 6th or 7th Attic24 Crochet Along I have been part of and I can highly recommend them. They are always rich in warmth and a sense of community, especially if you follow Lucy’s blog and the Hooked on Attic24 Facebook Group.

The first CAL I joined in with was the Cosy Stripe ; then the Neat Ripple, link to Lucy’s pattern here ; the Neat Wave, Lucy used Moorland Colours, I made mine in Dorset Summer Hedgerow Colours; the Woodland Blanket was one of my favourites; and last year was the Sweet Pea inspired Trellis Stitch blanket.

As the rain beats against the windows and the wind plays music with my photovoltaic roof panels, I have been finishing off a few wig W.I.P.s

funky chemo wig, pink and orange, crochet

This wig is to add to my collection of variations on my Curly Wig. The basic pattern can be found on Etsy and Ravelry.

This new version could be just the thing to keep the ears warm on a day like today.

Stay Safe and Cosy.

Is it a Hat, is it a Wig?

chemo wig, crochet, hat, wig

My latest variation of one of my basic hat/wig patterns.

Here is the originalcrochet wig

I have added rows of DK yarn in between the main rows of the chunky yarn.crochet chemo wig

I’m thinking I might make another with multicolured yarns of all different weights – it could be a great stash-buster.

The hat/wigs have been worn for fancy dress:  a multi-coloured one, modelled here by my lovely daughter-in-law

They have been bought for wearing in college plays, as fun chemo wigs, by my nephew and his mates on a zany night out and of course Halloween

17 for 2017: February

I have set myself a few targets for 2017:

17 – walks longer than an hour

FIVE

3 in January

2 in February

On the 5th.Feb I went for a foggy walk with a friend near Hardy’s Monument.

We came across the remains of a burnt out car

Now that might not look very enticing to you – but since making art out of Beach Clean finds, a pile of charred and rusty trash is like treasure to me. Luckily my friend knows me well enough and was happy to help me gather bits from the ashes and put them in the boot of her car to take home.

If you would like to see pictures of a walk at Hardy’s Monument on a sunnier day, click HERE.

On the 12th Feb my daughter, her friend and their children joined me on a trip to Lewesdon Hill  where we hunted for a Geocache box (and found it!). We all went back to Washingpool, the best Farm Shop in Dorset, if not the world! for a delicious Sunday roast.

Washingpool was used as a location in the current TV drama ‘Broadchurch’.

These here wigs!!!!!

Who’d-a-thought it!

A lovely woman called Sue asked me to be a Guest Blogger on her Crochet Addict site.

I have never done anything like that before and it was fun to put together.

In the piece I wrote, amongst other things, I  posted pictures of my latest hat/wig designs

I think the one above has a sort of Jane Austen look about it – do you?

(apologies for feeble attempt at digital clown make-up!)

And they seem to be getting a lot of attention and some lovely comments so far from Melissa and Cathy

The patterns can be found in the Etsy Shop and on Ravelry.

Ravelry is a site for all things to do with knitting and crochet.

(You have to register with Ravelry to look at pages on there).

It took me a while to work out how the site works and how to sell patterns. But one advantage of having some horrid bug which has kept me away from doing other things (I’ve been in bed most of the week – yuck!), is that I have had time to spend on the computer and despite my brain being fuddled by a temperature etc, I managed to get to grips with Ravelry.

Which has been very exciting because the hat/wigs seem to be making people smile and they are having fun with them and imagining all sorts of occasions for them – halloween being a favourite. I love the zany craziness of it and can’t wait to see pictures posted of my wigs being worn in far flung places!

Hat/Wigs are taking off!!!!
