Smokey and the Blanket

This picture came in an email yesterday, along with this lovely message:

“Thought I’d share some more appreciaters of the blanket, everyone loves it!
We love the extra weight of it on our bed too, it’s super snugly as well as beautiful xx”

Seems the whole family loves that blanket.

‘Ickle’ on the right is an old-timer and a bit wary of the young virile Smokey, who joined the family just over a year ago as a kitten, and showed his love also for a crocheted blanket early on.

Bedspread for Little Miss M

A finished project is something to celebrate!This one started out as one of the throws I was making to go beneath my favourite painting, ‘Summer Flight’ by Carolyne KardiaI was trying to choose colour and design to compliment the picture and go over the back of the sofa beneath.  Not a good idea as it turns out –  all the ripple designs I tried seemed to fight with the picture – they were not happy together. But experimenting was enjoyable and resulted in quite a few cushions and a couple of throws that have been put to good use elsewhere.

This one is much loved by Smokey the kitten. It has now become a bedspread for Little Miss M.

It took some time to work out how to do the edging, but with crochet this is quick and easy.

Filling in the rippled ends took a bit of working out. I just sort of made it up as I went along, but I think it worked out well enough in the end.Smokey and the girls think so anyway.

Made with Stylecraft Special DK, 12 Colours:

White, Cream, Soft Peach, Fondant, Bright Pink, Magenta, Aspen, Turquoise, Teal, Aster, Bluebell and Lavender.

Haiku Conversation

I sent my friend (S.M.) my ‘Robin Haiku’ by email. It was she who had told me about Basho’s Haiku. And she replied:

Robin in tree
Sings clearly to sun
Bramble clearing fun

I thanked her by email, and later ….                                                                       maybe in response to my Xmas 2014 poem, another popped into my inbox:

Happy New Year
Away from fear
of false Christmas cheer

We have discovered that Haikus can be a little bit addictive, and have had them going round in ours heads all day, here’s one of mine:

WINTER WALK                                                                                                       Walkers muffled up                                                                                                       Against the cold wind blowing                                                                                        Boots on, crunching ice

I’m sticking to the traditional 3 lines, in 5 syllable, 7 syllable, 5 syllable format as it feels like a satisfying puzzle to solve. Apparently, according to Auntie Internet, modern Haikus can stray outside that form – and now I’m wondering if they traditionally have titles … maybe not?

She is obviously from the modern school of Haiku – “Ah so”!
