In Jam Jars on Monday

In a Vase on MondayDespite the grey skies and the weeks of battering from wind and rain, there is still a lot of pink in my garden.

The Argyranthemums have formed huge clumps and have been flowering prolifically since May.

The self-seeded Antirrhinums have been a self-perpetuating surprising array of colours.

The red Achillea loves its new position in the new border.

The Kaffir Lilies have survived their many transplants.

The Phygelia stays in a raised bed waiting for a permanent position and seems to love it there, so perhaps it will have to stay where it is.

And my lovely rose, Hot Princess, after a promising Spring flush, sulked all Summer only to burst forth now in early Autumn – so I think she will still be flowering for my birthday, which is particularly apt as she was a birthday gift, last year, from NanaCathy. Thank you Cathy.

pink flowers, pelargoniums

I have picked all the flowers off my pelargoniums and lifted the plants.

In the past I have tried to dry them out and then repot in the Spring and planting out after frosts have finished – this had very limited success.

For the past couple of years I have dug them up and kept them going inside all winter, then planted them out again – each time removing the blooms and taking cuttings.

It seems to work and I get the bonus of flowers all winter.

I feed them with a little Tomato feed each week.

What do you do with yours?

In a Jug on Monday

That is my son-in-law ploughing the field for the maize to go in – at last we have a stretch of good growing weather ahead of us.orange metal jug

Sweet Cicely and Red Campion, both from my garden, sit in an orange metal jug that has ‘Made in Yuogoslavia’ on its base. My Mum used to have a stall in Wimborne market buying and selling all sorts of bits and pieces – I think she probably bought more than she sold! But she used to find us all some wonderfully fun and quirky gifts – this jug was one of them.

I use Sweet Cicely stalks to sweeten rhubarb, I never use sugar nowadays, I might pop in a few raisins or dates to add a bit of sweetness too.

My epiphyllum is throwing its own party in my sitting room – it is GORGEOUS at the moment! I feel proud of myself to have managed to get it to flower so well!epiphyllumcactus flower

pink and orange

The pelargonium has been flowering for over a year now, and the marigolds sit in a Victorian glass ink pot, I found in a hedge in the 1970s.
