In a Vase on Monday

I was so excited to see three varieties of lychnis in my garden.

I gathered seeds of the magenta and white ones from other gardens and just scattered them around mine, so the one with a pink centre was an especially gorgeous surprise.

The pottery vase was made in Roch, Pembrokeshire by a potter who is no longer there, I bought it in the 1970s on a visit to my Welsh grandparents. The chambers are joined together in twos at the bottom and then a dear little vase is separately fixed on the top.

In a Frida Vase on Monday

My son-in-law was helping with a house clearance this week and he rescued this vase for me, isn’t that lovely of him!!! And my daughter said – “a Vase for Monday!”

I immediately thought the vase had a Kahloesque look about it. You might already know I am a big fan of Frida!

An opportunity to get those candles out again.

Does anyone know what the mauve flowers are – they seed themselves freely around the garden?

I am thoroughy enjoying the heady scented mix of honeysuckle and philadelphus.

And philadelphus is my entry for Cee’s Flower of the Day.

There is a Frida Kahlo exhibition on at the V and A at the moment – I hope to go and see it, but it is hard to think of getting on a train and travelling to London whilst we are enjoying such glorious sunny weather.

In a Vase on Monday

‘In a Vase on Monday’ is hosted by Rambling in the Garden – oh my goodness what a lovely subject to share! My vase (jug, made in Italy and bought 25 years ago or more in Honiton, Devon) contains Aquilegia, Sweet Cicely, the last of the Pheasant Eye Narcissi, Forget-me-nots and one of my all-time favourites – Cerinthe Oh how I love this plant! It self-seeds, survives the winter and seems to be happy in most places in my garden. The vase is sitting on a shawl knitted by my Mum (now 86). I would so love to have taken this arrangement to her in her Care Home, but sadly she has dementia and anything you take her, only seems to add to her anxiety and distress. So, instead I took it to a friend who is having a very stressful time at the moment – and I only thought of doing this after the prompt of seeing ‘In a Vase on Monday’ – blogland spreading the love!!!
