We had a magical family day out yesterday at Abbotsbury Swannery.
Feeding time for swans is at 12 noon and 4pm
Children are able to go and feed them too.
There were masses of breeding pairs to see
and cygnets – awwww!
There are Go Karts, a Maze, a Quiz, a Playground and a very good restaurant, which all makes for a very good day out.
And – Little Miss M and I added 3.2 miles to our total – 75.2miles completed – target 500 miles
looks like a great day out!

Wowsah! I think my heart would burst with joy if I ever saw so many swans in one place. I have never seen a swan in Maine.

I feel the same about Hummingbirds Laurie. We don’t get them over here.

Fun! Aren’t the cygnets cute. And I thought swans got quite alarming if anyone looked at their young 🙂

The Swannery has been there since the 1040s so I suppose these swans have always been used to people and they hatch with people just a few inches from them, it is all they know. Most of the nests had a male standing guard and looking threatening, one person got pecked cos he went too close, but so long as you keep about 2 feet away you are fine.
Swans in the wild would be a very different matter I’m sure.

This is what happens when I’m shunted off the desk top and have to resort to my tablet. Auto correct takes over and I ‘like’ my own comments. 🙄

Well I expect you do. But do you all ‘live’ close-by too?

Yes Lynn, I’m lucky enough to live in the same village as my daughter, just across one field; and a 10 minute drive away from my son.

You always seem to be out and about with your family at weekends. Do you all love close-by?

Thank you – I am rather tempted to go back on my own and see if I can get some more.

The cygnets are so cute! They were somewhat older when I took my granddaughter.
