Life has it’s ups and downs and I am going through a bit of a tricky patch right now. Nothing serious and nothing to do with Covid19, although the outside circumstances are not helping.
I am well, all my family are well and I have so much to be thankful and grateful for. So today I thought it might be good to share one particular thing that makes me feel very happy and brings calm to my day.
The irises in my garden are at their best and so sweetly scented. The scent reminds me of pear drops. When I have had a tricky phone call or spent far too much time trying to compose emails, I walk out into the garden and take some time to commune with the irises.
Is there something that is giving you particular pleasure today?
Tell me one good thing.
I would love to fill my mind with lots of good things my blogging buddies are up to today.
My backyard specifically my deck furniture has been making me happy during these tough times. Here’s a post about it ⬇️🌿

Thank you Cathy, a few things are smoothing out now. It has felt so supportive to have good wishes from blogging friends. My garden is my haven – although not so much today and it is SO windy. xx

One good thing – EVERY DAY – is thinking about my beautiful four children and their beautiful children….and thanking my Heavenly Father every day for each and every one of them.
I can’t imagine my life without each and every one of them! (See Mom Mom smiling! )

Indeed our children and grandchildren are the greatest blessing.

For me getting outside and distracting myself with a garden task (watering, weeding, planting) does the trick. I hope your irises continue to bring the distraction and relaxation you need.

One good thing this evening was watching the housemartins swirling and curving over the yard. I love the noises they make. Shrieking and chirping, and chattering in the nests. We have three nests at the last count, but there must be about 30 birds so no doubt more nests will appear soon. We had 11 last year but a lot fell down over the winter. My heart always jumps when I see the first ones return in spring. 😃 Lots of positive thoughts being sent with this comment. 🤗

Thank you so much Cathy. All the positive thoughts really do help – in the evening after all these wonderfully supportive comments, a minor miracle happened and things started to smooth out. I believe in the power of positive loving support beaming in to a situation, thank you.
I have not seen any swifts or swallows yet, oh dear, that’s not a good sign, I will look out for them today. 🙂 ❤

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through a rough patch; I do hope everything will work out okay. As for me: an old apple tree that grows outside our place has been struggling the last few years (and has lately been saved from some major construction going on beside it for weeks now) is once again in bloom. That soft, rosy pink set off against fresh spring green is one of my favourite colour combinations – and the tree attracts many birds. In particular, Baltimore orioles come every year, attracted to the insects, and they nest nearby. Their burbling song is a delight. I’ve been watching the latest pair – the male in his brilliant orange and black togs – foraging in the tree, and it never fails to lift my spirits.

Beautiful irises. I always love purple in the garden. So something good from me today ? ……. I got to grips with a crochet square, a start of a summer top – that made my day start well. I spent 2 hours yesterday hooking and unhooking the same length of yarn, I even watched the youtube video about starting this same top – it flummoxed me. Today, with a new head, perhaps a better sleep too, it worked within half an hour. That’s a feel good thing – when something that has foxed you then becomes outfoxed, Think onward and upward!

Something definitely happens during sleep – somehow the mind unravels and sorts things out. I’m so pleased to hear of your successful turn around, those times really help the days along. 🙂

Sorry you are going through a rough patch now and I hope it turns around soon for you. Okay, maybe not grateful for this, but I hope it makes you smile, my brand of humour in that if I was having to wait for my garden to produce enough food, I would starve! And, having to take medication in the evening means I have an excuse to drink at lunchtime! lol I love waking in the early morning to the sound of birdsong in the garden, which seems clearer than ever before. Sending you healing light and love of Reiki.

That did make me smile!! Cheers!
I don’t think we have talked about Reiki before.
I was a Massage Therapist for 10 years in my pre-blogging days and incorporated healing into treaments. I did Reiki 1 and 2.
Thank you so much for the healing light and Reiki love, much appreciated. ❤

I hope the knots in your life soon unravel and the yarn runs sweetly and smoothly again. I am thrilled because a peace lily I discovered looking very poorly in the corner of the back yard is coming back to life, thanks to the rain. I’m delighted because contrary to all previous form, the Husband is showing signs of becoming interested in gardening, even if it’s for veg rather than beauty. And I’m happy because the slow, meticulous work of adding a facing to the quilt I’m making is half done and soon, I’ll be able to start quilting 🙂

I love your description in yarn terms.
A peace lily is a glorious thing to behold – just right for me to think of that flower right now. So glad you are making good progress.

The sun is shining, the bugs are not bad, and gardening awaits. I found some buds on my small irises, and the lawns are covered with wildflowers—violets, bluets, strawberries blossoms, dandelions. Some people would see this as a deficit. Not me! Take care, take care! Discouraging times with no clear end in sight.

I really like the sound of your lawn, it must be very pretty.
No clear end in sight … yes, that is a challenge, isn’t it.
One day there will be a safe, widely available vaccine, then we will have turned the corner.
There are a few optimistic murmurings this side of the Pond about a vaccine being developed by this October, but how long it will take to roll it out to the general populace is anybody’s guess. ❤

So many good things. How wonderful to have some ducklings to keep an eye on. I miss having animals around, although a young cock pheasant is trying to adopt me. He keeps sitting on my doorstep, sunning himself and looks quite disgruntled when I deign to emerge from the house.

So sorry you are going through a tough time. The garden is making me smile at the moment, like you I have irises but they are almost finished now and the bright orange celendula are starting to take over, hopefully the roses will be along soon. And the tapestry weaving is going well, that always makes me smile.

Sorry life is tough for you at present, hope things get sorted soon. Your irises look so lovely and scented too, a definite plus. Yesterday the thing that was giving me most pleasure was the sight of the darn on the heel of my sock, not visible when shoes are on which is good but I kept taking them off to look because the darn was made of such pretty colours that sort of harmonised and it meant that the socks, that were just as soft and comfy as ever, would last for much longer. Funny thing to give one pleasure I know. Today it is my latest batch of oatcakes; I think they are even better than last time.

I completely understand your joy in your darned sock!! So many levels of happiness in that one splendid mend of a useful, homemade, crafted item, given a new lease of life.
Can almost smell your oatcakes from here. 😉 🙂

Yesterday my neighbour’s daughter and her boyfriend put manure round all the trees and bushes on the orchard for me as thanks for letting them use the cabin in the garden. The orchard is at the top of the slope so it was a big help. Also Matt arrived to fit out my new utility room which was just a breezeblock shell. It is looking better already. My daughter got an excellent mark on her last Open University assignment so has passed this year’s module. I finished emptying the compost bins and was able to retie the sides so they no longer flop. And it rained overnight so I am less desperate for water in the garden. All in all a good day!

Aaah! So many wonderfully good things – they are all making me smile as I uderstand how meaningful those offers of practcial help are. Such a relief to get some good strong youthful energy in the garden.
Sorting out compost is one of my favourite jobs – there is alchemy and magic at play in those there heaps! 🙂

I need more alliums, they certainly are a cheerful sight.
I have ordered some white irises for my garden – I think they arrive in August – very exciting.

I was thinking of you the other day when all my coppery, bronze, rust coloured irises were in all the glory as I remember posting about them last year and you saying they were a bit ‘witchy’.
Anyway, so far today, I’ve framed a picture of my sister’s dog that i’m going to send her for her birthday and I’m looking forward to finishing another project later today. The fact that the sun is shining is another bonus of course.
I hope your ‘tricky patch’ resolves itself soon.

It has been a bit cold here, so I lit the fire this morning.

I had a sense of peace when, before breakfast, I went out into the garden. I actually took off my outdoor crocs and stood in my socks on the grass. (An extremely unusual occurrence for me) birds where busy the breeze was light and the sun was warm. The scent of the tiny white flowers we have drifted around me and I smiled.

One good thing for yesterday, was that I got my jobs completed by 2:30 so was able to sit in the glorious sunshine, in our back garden, listening to the city life as a faint buzz behind the raucousness of the magpies and sparrows that share the garden with us and the the rabbit. Whilst doing so I completed the next two squares of my crochet blanket. I’m having great run, and feel that I’m achieving something I ought to have done years ago.
This is what I’m doing, only not so proficiently, co it’s my first attempt.
