door to fairyland
fallen, despite flagged warning
lesson learnt the hard way
~
My grandsons, Big Bro (6) and Little Bro (3) were playing with the Fairy Door that was tucked under the oak tree, they wanted to take it out of its cubby hole. I told them that if it came out it might get broken.
Later they were playing football and the inevitable happened. I searched online for another fairy door and came across these wooden cut outs
made by Hazel Woodcraft
They are not as big as the ceramic one but this one will do nicely until I find a bigger one.
I’m thinking of putting a few around the house, atop skirting boards and at the bottom of cupboard doors … and maybe adorning a birthday card or two
At least these will survive the football.

I ‘pushed’ the photo at the top of the post to extremes and changed it to monochrome as I liked the shapes created. It would make a great design for a piece of abstract art in collage or paint.

It strikes me that this haiku could be a metaphor for many situations. It reminds me of the dire warnings my Dad gave me when I got engaged aged 19 – my Dad turned out to be right!

I love fairy doors. I wish I had a tree with the right roots for one.

Finding just the right place for one is the tricky bit! I have seen them placed halfway up a tree and I might try that too.

Love the fairy door and the grand fun you’ll have fitting the new one(s)! Fond memories of boys with their toys, crashing and banging galore. Great “door” post and haiku.

Thank you Jen. I love seeing my two grandsons playing together as it brings back fond memories for me as well, of my two boys, who were always kicking a ball around together. A broken fairy door is a small price to pay! And it is all glued together again now.

What a delightful idea. I may go to work on something similar: well worth the effort. Thank you for the inspiration.

Clare has been out photographing two chipmunks who have decided to nest in our garden. They have a veritable fairyland out there, with their own little door. Tick-tock: that’s my mind working …

Yes Becky, I think they learnt something, that’s not to say it won’t happen again of course, but they are only little, accidents happen and it gave me an opportunity to find some other doors I can play around with.

Oh dear boys and their footballs. Still you now have little doors a plenty. I do hope no critters use them to find their way into your house!

Boys have to be boys Sandra!! You had them make a new one I hope?

Boys do indeed Denis! I had two myself. Their little faces had such a look of horror when the door was smashed. It is a good idea for them to make a new one – I’ll set that up for when they are next here.
