Photo Challenge Prompt: MUSIC

Ronovan’s Haiku Prompts: BELLS and RING

I know many of you will be getting festive, but I am retreating into my own little world of creative solitude – bliss!!!!!

Haikus don’t seem to be flowing at the moment, maybe I’ll add one later if inspiration strikes.

The photo above is of a textile book I am putting together as a Baby Book, i thought Rock-a-Bye Baby would be good as the centre page.

I’m making pocket to tuck little records indsc_0010-1

Photo Challenge: WRAP

Haiku Challenge: KISS and TASTE

‘Phaiku’: combining the two challenges

The Japanese turn wrapping into an art form. They use a Furoshiki, or wrapping cloth. Here’s how to wrap two wine bottles in a way where they are protected from clanking together and include a carrying handle.

Use a piece of cloth 90cm square – a large scarf or small table cloth and place the bottles diagonally with their bases a fist width apart.

dsc_0119

Then fold the bottom left corner over the bottles and roll to the opposite corner keeping as tight as possible. Making sure that the last corner is underneath the bottles

dsc_0120 dsc_0121

Then take hold of each bottle by the neck and fold upwards so that they are standingdsc_0122Tie the top with one right over left move.

Leave a gap and tie a reef knot: right over left, left over right – tighten securely.

Et Voilà! or perhaps in Japanese: ここで (Koko de)

(The translation is according to Google Translate, so goodness knows if it is right!)

The fabric I have used is an African wax printdsc_0117

I’m a bit in love with the bold design and vibrant colours of African prints at the moment. These leaf designs are sure to turn up in some pages of doodles soon.

Happy Wrapping!

This week’s Photo Challenge prompt: CREATION

There are many wonders in all creation but the mystery, magic and miracle of birth sums it up for me.

Also entering Ronovan’s Weekly Haiku challenge. His prompt words are PET and PLAY.

For most of my life I have had dogs and cats as pets but the last one died just before moving house in 2005, life got busy, grandchildren came along. I sometimes miss the company of animals, but enjoy the freedom without them nowadays.

I have nicknamed this combo of the two challenges a Phaiku – have a go!

Please leave a link to your ‘Creation’ Photo or Phaiku in the comments.

Next weeks prompt is WRAP

Also joining in with Cee’s Black and White Challenge: Made by Human Beings – couldn’t resist!

Now drum roll please!

Here is our new Photo Challenge List for 2017. It has been an absolute joy to compile the 2017 list with Cathy for your inspiration and delight.

Thanks go to Cathy, Rainbow Jane and Melissa for the 2016 list – it has been a great year – just 3 more weeks to go! I don’t think Cathy, Jane or I have missed a week – quite an achievement and so wonderful to have been doing this together. Melissa had so many other priorities to attend to but joined us when she could. It was Melissa who introduced me to the idea of the ‘Phaiku’.

Thanks also go to YOU for all your wonderful entries – it is always a delight to see the variety of the interpretations for each word. Long may it continue!

We’d LOVE you to join us in 2017.

Ta Dah!

photo-challenge-2017-2

A huge thank you to RainbowJ for the graphics.

Feel free to copy this list to keep to hand – I pop mine in my camera case.

A few changes to note for 2017:

  1. The day for the start of the Challenge will be each Tuesday.
  2. Please leave a link in the comments on this blog, Wild Daffodil, so that the entries are all together and we can visit each entry easily.
  3. This list for 2017 has been compiled by Cathy and Sandra.
  4. The name of the challenge has changed to ‘One-a-Week’.
  5. If you feel inspired to create a haiku to go with the photo you can find prompt words on Ronovan Writes each Monday.
  6. You don’t have to post every week, just join in when you like.
  7. Choose current, recent or archive photos and posts to link to.
  8. Have fun!

and as Cathy always says HAPPY SNAPPING! 😉

Ronovan’s Haiku Challenge, prompts: GOLD and SING

dsc_0017

On Sunday I went for a walk in the footsteps of my ancestors up Lewesdon Hill, which is likely to be the highest point in Dorset (or is that Pilsdon Pen?)

It was a very STILL November day and a gentle mist hovered over the top of this ancient hill fort. Especially noticeable after of our recent fierce storms. It was hard to choose just one photograph, so have a wander with me.

This is my 15th walk of more than one hour, only one more to go to fulfil my 16 for 2016 challenge.

Then back to the New Inn in Stoke Abbott for the most delicious roast beef and Yorkshire pudding I have had in many a year – lashings of gravy and generous portions of perfectly cooked fresh vegetables, the cauliflower cheese mmmmmmmm! – a perfect treat.

One of my forebears opened this pub in 1895, and with his wife, there they brought up their 13 children and ran the pub for over 20 years. The pub still holds it’s character and I love to think of my relations sitting by the inglenook and supping a pint of home brew.

Please leave a link in the Comments for us to share in your STILLness

Next Week our prompt word is CREATION

Very apt as we have just created a new list for your enjoyment for next year – we hope to be able to show it to you next Tuesday. 😉

Our Photo Challenge: WILD

Ronovan’s : DREAM and DARE

Together they are the ‘Phaiku’ challenge. Go on have a go! Please leave a link in the comments if you do.

The weather has been WILD hereabouts and I did try to get a photo, but they just looked grey and dull……… as I was pondering what photo to use instead, I got up from where I was ‘working’ and looked back – and just like Tracy Emin’s Bed I realised I had created rather a wild mess in my frenzy of delight and inspiration after pouring over my Pinterest Embroidery page.

Can you believe that vast pile of colour produced these tiny little fabric embellishmentsdsc_0001-1

Here they are against a dark backgrounddsc_0001-1-1

They are destined to adorn the textile books I am making for my grandchildren

dsc_0024

and maybe some tote bags … one day … when they finally get made .. ……

What is your WILD? Please leave a link in the comments and go over to Cathy k to see what she has come up with.

I do hope the weather takes heed of next week’s prompt: STILL

Our Photo Challenge Prompt: SOCKS

Ronovan’s Haiku Prompts: BREATHE and NEW

There is such wonderful sock yarn around and I have been wanting to make some socks, but I do not like knitting with dpns or circular needles – I have found a group on Facebook – The Year of The Sock. They make crocheted socks, hurray.

Our photo challenge prompt has nudged me into starting a pair – at last! If I like making them and I like the result I am going to treat myself to some sock yarn.

If you pop over to Rainbow Junkie’s post you can see her amazing collection of socks she has made.

Do you have some socks to share? Handmade or otherwise, please leave a link in the comments. Everyone has socks – right?

Last November I went on a Textile Tour of Japan with Arena Travel and fell in love with the country, its people and culture. I started to share my trip with you all and then my computer crashed, for good. It took a while for me to get back to normal.  Life bowls along and somehow Japan got left behind, so here we are again with a post full of wonderful memories. (I have put links to previous posts about Japan at the end).

This photo (taken from the coach) is entered in this week’s  Photo Challenge.

The prompt is ‘STREET‘; the Japanese for street is ‘Dori’ as seen on the signpost.

Ronovan’s haiku prompts this week are: CHANGE and MIND

In previous posts about the trip I described the tie-dying workshop and wandering around the town of Arimatsu whilst our pieces were drying. We were all (there were 13 of us on the trip) delighted with them when we returned to pick them up

and had an opportunity to see fabric being prepared for dying in the tiny shop.DSC_0122

Then we set off to visit to a Shibori museum, where more intricate work was being demonstrated DSC_0136

The hydrangeas in my garden are at their most beautiful stage at the moment.
